I'm doing volunteer work at a homeless shelter and the people I help are making me miserable...?

I think you're in the wrong place for the wrong reasons. I think that working with mentally ill homeless people takes someone who is doing it out of compassion for the people they are serving, not someone looking for Brownie points. Please don't try to stick it out, for your sake and for theirs.
